WHAT ABOUT MY KIDS?

Welcome Home! Regardless of where you are on your life's journey, we invite you to let First Church be your spiritual home. We are an accepting, engaging church with many programs designed for your whole family.

Whether you are a longtime Christian looking for a church, a curious inquirer weighing organized religion, or someone who just wants to belong, First Church will welcome you with open hearts.

The two worship spaces each set the tone for worship at First Church. The Great Heritage traditional service is held in the sanctuary on the main floor of the building. The Chancel Choir and organ lead the music and congregational singing uses the hymnal. Often worship music is augmented by other groups such as bells, vocal or instrumental soloists, or liturgical dancers.

The Bridge contemporary service is held in the fellowship hall in the basement in an informal gathering with round tables. Snacks are provided. The music is lead by the praise band. Congregational singing uses a screen. The sermon is the same in both services. And there is a special children's time in both services.

Music and the Arts at First Church

Rylee guitar at First Church photoWe believe there is no “right” or “wrong” in church music and art. Religious music and arts can be traditional or contemporary – or somewhere in between. At First Church we offer a variety of music and artistic expressions aimed to please all the senses. If you love organ, piano, voices, guitars, drums, or bells – we have the music to both stir and soothe you.

Praise band photoOur Sunday worship services contain music and art that ranges from “classic/traditional” to “contemporary/alternative.” Visuals range from painted artwork to digital street art. Worship is enhanced with liturgical dance, drama, and multi-media.

Bells photoAt the present time we have two bell choirs, the Genesis Bells and the Clarion Ringers. Both bell choirs rehearse on Wednesday afternoons: the Genesis Bells at 4:30pm and the Clarion Ringers at 3:00pm.  The Clarion Ringers has several new beginners eager to learn to play and is seeking more.  If you are interested in joining either group, please contact Shirley at surely_50@hotmail.com.

Casey Robards photoOur Director of Music Ministries and director of the Chancel Choir is Dr. Casey Robards. Casey is on the faculty of Central Michigan University’s School of Music in the area of collaborative piano. If you are interested in participating in either the chancel choir or the praise band, contact her at caseyrobards@gmail.com

First Church Choir photoThe Chancel Choir sings a variety of music from classical anthems to Negro spirituals for the  traditional worship service at 9:00am. The Chancel Choir rehearses Wednesday evenings at 6:30pm.

The Praise Band leads worship at the 11:00am contemporary worship  service and practices Wednesdays at 7:30pm.

Please visit our YouTube channel where we have playlists of the major works that the Chancel Choir has performed. https://www.youtube.com/user/mtpfumc
